Duval School Board OKs 12 charters, suspension for principal


Jacksonville Local News – Jacksonville.com and The Florida Times-Union
Duval County will see 12 new charter schools in coming months.
The School Board approved the new schools Tuesday night during its monthly meeting. During the meeting, board members also denied two other charter school applications.
One of the OK'd charter schools — Florida Virtual Academy at Duval County — is run by K12 Inc., the online education company currently being investigated in Florida and Georgia.

  1. I like the idea of competition but I fear the use of government subsidies in this way will only lead to corruption and sub-par schools. Though this won't be greatly different from the current scheme.
