Two City Council committees signed off Monday on letting Jacksonville police issue traffic tickets based on photos taken by red-light cameras.
Mayor Alvin Brown's 2013 budget assumes the city will receive $1.5 million on new fines from the cameras, but the council still has to pass legislation (2012-449) to authorize their use.
The idea cleared panels on public safety and transportation Monday, leaving only a vote by the Finance Committee Tuesday as the last stop before a full council decision next week.
