Fla. expected to get $1.3 billion from jobs bill

Florida is expected to get about $1.3 billion from a new federal jobs bill for education and Medicaid benefits.

President Barack Obama signed it into law Tuesday shortly after it passed in Congress.

Gov. Charlie Crist said he was "grateful to our federal partners" for the legislation. It should help avoid teacher layoffs and cuts in Medicaid and other state spending.

Nearly $800 million is expected for Medicaid and $555 million for schools. Crist says that's enough to employ more than 9,100 teachers.
